The article is a reconstruction of the life of Leo Lipski and Michał Chmielowiec, who corresponded for nearly three decades, from 1946 to 1974. It complements the correspondence, which lacks many biographical details or refers to them in a way comprehensible solely to the two men. The author presents the biographical background, highlighting the similarities of the two men’s experiences in their childhood, student days, as well as the time when they escaped to the east, and other events. However, the author also shows how their lives differed after 1942: the sick and paralyzed Lipski got stuck in Israel, whereas Chmielowiec finally settled in London.
